The 1993-1994 Houston Rockets tied the NBA record with 15 straight wins to start the season, and never looked back.
The Rockets went on to a 58-24 record, a franchise best. Houston center Hakeem Olajuwon won the NBA’s Most Valuable Player award. He also repeated as the league’s Defensive Player of the Year.
Houston solidified its place in history by winning the city’s first NBA title. The Rockets won Games 6 and 7 of the NBA Finals at home against the New York Knicks and claimed the first of two straight championships.
The 2000-2001 Houston Rockets managed two unusual feats in a season of transition from the Hakeem Olajuwon era to the brief Steve Francis era.
Houston compiled a perfect 16-0 record against foes from the Central Division. The Rockets became just the second team to go undefeated against an entire division since the NBA went to a four-division format for the 1970-1971 season. (The Los Angeles Lakers ran the table against the Central Division during the 1982-1983 season).
The Rockets also missed the playoffs despite a 45-37 record. Houston’s consolation prize: the most wins for a lottery-bound team since the NBA expanded the postseason field to 16 teams starting with the 1983-1984 season.
